Using Lavender Around The Home

Using Lavender for Green Cleaning

Lavender is great for household use all around the home.  Since the early days where cottage herb gardens were the mainstay Lavender has been used for a variety of medicinal, culinary and other household uses. Now with the return to natural products and healthier more environmentally friendly "green" living, the use of Lavender is again seeing a resurgence in popularity.

The antibacterial, antibiotic, antiviral, antiseptic, deodorizing and insect repelling properties make it an extremely useful safe natural way for keeping up the home environment on a daily basis.

From protecting and storing clothing to cleaning and deodorizing the bathroom Lavender Essential Oil has a broad range of safe effective uses.  Where else can you find something so versatile and that smells so nice?

For bathroom and kitchen use make a spray with distilled white vinegar and drops of essential oil combining the two in a spray bottle.  This  simple inexpensive cleaning spray may be used for cleaning and sanitizing a variety of surfaces such as counter tops and bathroom sinks.

Make your own aromatherapy dish liquid with antibacterial properties by combining unscented natural dish soap with 10 -15 drops of pure Lavender Essential Oil.  You may also add Lavender (25-30 drops) to your unscented natural liquid laundry detergent to freshen the whole wash load.

Lavender dryer sachets are easy to make from your dried Lavender for use in the clothes dryer leaving a gentle scent or try handmade wool dryer balls and Lavender oil. Lavender works as remover of small laundry stains such as paint, nail polish, tar, grease. You could also make a multipurpose Lavender Linen Spray to use while ironing.

Use cotton balls with 3-5 drops of Lavender in the corners of your kitchen cupboards, to safely repel insects from your cabinets without the use of toxic chemicals around your food. The cotton balls may also be added to your vacuum cleaner bag, stinky tennis shoes, or almost anywhere you need to freshen the air naturally.

As you can see Lavender has a number of effective uses around the home and you are only limited by your imagination.  I think Queen Victoria was correct with her love for Lavender and broad use of it through out her castle.
