Lavender Body Butter Recipe

    Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup Shea Butter
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Butter
  • 3 Tablespoons Kukui Oil (may subst. Sweet Almond Oil)
  • 1 Tablespoon Vitamin E (squeeze from a capsule)
  • 1 Teaspoon Corn Starch (reduces greasiness and helps butter set)
  • 20-25 drops of pure Lavender Essential Oil

How to Make Lavender Aromatherapy Body Butter

Microwave a large bowl of water until boiling or set up a hot water bath on the stove. Place Coconut oil, Shea butter and Cocoa butter in a smaller glass bowl and set inside the hot water bath. Stir with a metal spoon(wood will absorb the oils) until completely melted and blended together.

You may need to reheat you water in the microwave or add more via a teakettle to completely melt the butters. Next add the Kukui oil, Vitamin E and Lavender Oil. Stir well. Last add the corn starch and mix thoroughly.

Now comes the fun part! Remove from the hot water bath and allow to cool for a few minutes. Set the bowl of butters in an ice water bath. Just use the same large bowl filled with ice and water. Use a hand mixer or stick immersion blender to whip up your body butter to a light as air consistency just like whipped cream.

The more you whip the lighter and fluffier it becomes so whip that Lavender aromatherapy body butter until completely light and fluffy. When fluffy and cool spoon the butter into dark screw top jars.

Knock the container on the counter a few times to remove large air pockets and allow for a complete fill. The body butter recipe makes for 10-12 ounces of the most wonderfully scented Lavender body butter.

You may customize your body butter recipe and replace some of the ingredients. Try Avocado oil or add Evening Primrose oil (sold in the vitamin section of your favorite store) along with Lavender to help treat Eczema.

For those of you wanting a body butter with a solid consistency just skip the whipping part and pour directly into your containers to set until firm. Place the butter in the fridge for a few hours will help speed up the process. Store your aromatherapy body butters in a cool place as they will melt if left in a hot car(won't affect usage just appearance!)

Use your Lavender body butter after a shower by applying to damp skin to seal in moisture. Apply to hands and feet but be sure to slip on some cotton socks before going to bed to keep your sheets clean. You will love how your skin feels and you will kiss that dryness goodbye.
