Using Lavender Oil to Heal Sunburn
First take a cool shower to help calm the inflamed skin. Next spray on a body mist made up of pure Lavender essential oil and water. To make a mist simply add 10-15 drops of essential oil to 1 1/2 cups of distilled or tap water. Shake well prior to spraying. Be sure to use true Lavender oil from the english variety and not oil produced from Spike Lavender.
You may also use a purchased hydrosol. Make sure it contains real Lavender essential oil and uses the term 'hydrosol.'
Spray your sunburned skin a few times a day, stay out of the sun and apply sunscreen properly the next time you do go out. Take care to wear clothing that will not rub or irritate the sunburned area.
If you don't have a misting bottle simply take a Lavender bath using cooler water. You may also add drops of lavender to a bowl of cool water and gently sponge off the burned skin area. Take caution to avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area.
Aloe and Lavender work well together to heal sunburn too. If you have an aloe plant you may use the gel inside the leaf mixing it with a few drops of essential oil. Apply to the skin as needed. Store any leftover in the fridge which feels wonderful on irritated skin.
Taking an anti-inflammatory drug such as Aleve or Ibuprofen would not hurt either but is optional.
